Once you see the 1603 error, close the installer. Java Install Did Not Complete Error Code 1603 I renamed those variables with a "_BAK" at the end (there are 2 system and 1 user) and this allowed the java install to complete successfully. During the installation, the installer creates a installcache folder which is by default located (in WinXP) at C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application data\Oracle\Java\installcache\ This folder contains bspatch.exe, baseimagefam8, diff. Worked for me too!!!
I tried a number of suggestions above and at other sites. Java Error Code 112 Go to your Windows Update History and remove that update (it will have been installed near the time you began having this problem). also you need to check the registry entries for that ,untill and unless every entries are not removed this issue will be there. I'm not even going to mess with it - if they can't bulletproof their own installer, I'm certainly not going to do the work for them...
